Saleeg with Chicken in 10 Steps

Saleeg is one of the most famous dishes in Saudi Arabia. Saleeg is white rice cooked in milk. According to the region, Saleeg has different ways of cooking. It is cooked and served either with chicken or meat.


3 chicken thighs

1 cup washed and drained rice

3 cups milk

3 tbsp tomato paste

1 onion

1/4 tsp grated ginger

1 Cinnamon sticks

2 bay leaves

3 pods of cardamom

1/2 tsp white pepper

1 tbsp vegetable oil

2 tbsp butter

4 mastic tears


1.Put chicken, cinnamon, salt, onions, bay leaves and cardamoms in a pressure cooker, add water and leave it on medium heat until it is cooked

2. Remove the chicken and leave it aside

3. Mix tomato paste, pepper, salt and ginger in a bowl and spread the paste on the chicken

4. Place the chicken in the oven at 200 ° C for 15 minutes, or till it is golden

5. Add 4 cups of chicken broth in a pot add rice and leave to boil

6 . Reduce the heat, and leave rice for 15 minutes

7. Add milk to the rice and leave to boil

8 . Put butter, oil and mastic in a saucepan and leave until melts

9. pour the butter mixture over the rice and mix well.

10. Serve rice with chicken
