Ramadan Sweets from Makkah

Ramadan is always associated with sweets, and Makkawis maintained their special dishes to the extend that it is rarely to find by others. Dishes like Sogdana (Sago pudding) and custard that are known through ages. Join us to know about these dishes.

Al-Sogdana (Sago)

A cup of Soddana (Sago)

2 cups hot water

A cup of powder milk

4 cups cold water

A cup of sugar

A teaspoon cardamom powder

– In a pot, add sago and hot water, simmer till sago starts to appear translucent. Put the milk powder in a bowl with cold water and stir until the milk dissolves. After ten minutes, add sugar and cardamom and simmer for five minutes. Pour into small bowls and cover until cooled then put in fridge for four hours.

Custard

4 cups water

4 tablespoons custard

A cup of powder milk

1/2 cup of sugar

A teaspoon of banana flavour

– In a saucepan, add water, custard powder, milk and sugar; simmer till all are well mixed and cooked. Add banana flavour and pour the mixture into small bowls, garnish with nuts, let it cool in the fridge and serve.
