Many stories are said about the history and origin of Meshabek (funnel cake). Some say it is originated in Egyptian Damietta governorate, others say it is from Syria, or India or even Turkey.
On its name, most stories attributed it to its shape of the so-called (buckle).
Meshabek is one of the popular desserts in many countries and is admired throughout the year, however it is more demanded in winter because it gives warmth and also because winter fruits are not many.

Here is a simple way to make Meshabek:
INGREDIENTS
1 cup of flour
1 cup of cornstarch
1 or less cup water
2 tsp yeast
2 tsp oil
2 tsp sugar
3 tbsp rose water
Food orange color
Syrup for desserts
Oil for frying
METHOD
Mix all ingredients and leave them to ferment. Prepare the frying oil and bring desserts special cone and pour the batter into it. Heat the oil, then make round or irregular shapes of the batter into the hot oil, fry till golden. Dip into the syrup, take it out, leave to cool and serve.
